I recently worked on one of those "fun" jobs, where you have fun. These come rarely, although I have to say as an illustrator, they probably come by more frequently than they would for say... an exterminator. Of course, I'm thinking of the extermination industry as an unpleasant line of work, when in reality it might be very rewarding. Truth be told, if you strongly dislike bugs, and you're not squeamish about killing them in droves, you might really enjoy being an exterminator.
Hell... perhaps you might walk into an exquisitely infested house, where you see more bug than wall, and you might get that same giddy feeling I get from a blank piece of paper.
The point I'm making here, however, is not about extermination. As the title above clearly indicates, It's about Robots and Rockets and the design thereof. For I was contacted to do my little bit for the Internet Research Group website by a tasty-little agency called Neo-Pangea. I have to say it was one of the smoothest jobs I ever had — Neo-Pangea designed the site and gave me the basic premise to explore; for my part I storyboarded the animation, designed the characters (make sure to check out the subpages), and built them in Flash. After which they were excellently animated by lamp-making animator, Andrew Schulman.
Now... go forth and view. And if you only have time to look at one thing, check out this guy... he's my favorite.
